The Locust Fork Band Headlines 2011 Polo Player’s Party

The Friday before the Polo at the Point event, polo players have an opportunity to mix with sponsors, patrons, families and friends of Polo at the traditional Player’s Party. This year’s Player’s Party, sponsored by Schwing Bioset, is Friday night, October 14 at the Grand Hotel Marriott’s Julep Point from 6:30 pm to 10 pm, where guests can enjoy hors d'oeuvres, live music, dancing and back by popular demand, the $20 Chicken Drop. Chairing the Player’s Party event are Lacy Radcliff and Elizabeth Jeansonne. Headlining the event is the Locust Fork Band, known most for playing Southern rock songs by bands such as the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker.

The Locust Fork Band was formed in 1974 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and as time went on, personnel changes brought new styles to the band and their popularity grew. With the exception of a hiatus in the mid 80’s, the band has performed ever since, carving out a unique place on the musical landscape. Today, early veterans of the band including Nida Threet, Bill Marshall, Kent Peterson, Dwight Williams and Rick Byrd continue to play. They have been joined by Robert Churchill, of Telluride fame, on drums and Robert O’Neal, who played with Roadside Attraction, on keyboards. When Locust Fork plays, fans have come to expect a very high level of musicianship, singing, and personality, which is why the band is a crowd favorite.

“The Player’s Party has always been a great way to acclimate some of our out-of-town polo players, especially our international players. Lots of folks come out to welcome the players and enjoy a great night of dancing, live music, and delicious local cuisine. The night is a great way to start off a wonderful weekend of sportsmanship, fundraising, and volunteerism,” stated Radcliff.

The 2011 Polo at the Point, hosted by Point Clear Charities, Inc. and presented by IBERIABANK and Grand Hotel Marriott is set for Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Sonny Hill-Clearwater Polo Complex in Point Clear, Ala. Since 1988, Polo at the Point has raised millions of dollars that benefited cancer research, local non-profit organizations, and children’s charities. This year’s main beneficiaries are Mercy Medical’s Guardian Angel Program and Thomas Hospital’s Pediatric Rehab Program. Sunday's event also includes world class polo, gourmet cuisine, champagne, divot stomping, tailgating fun, silent auction, hat parade, reserved seating in the luncheon tent, garden party attire, and more.
